The java that came with my linux install is:
$ java -version
java version "1.6.0_0"
OpenJDK Runtime Environment (IcedTea6 1.5) (mandriva-0.20.b16.0.3mdv2009.0-i386)
OpenJDK Client VM (build 14.0-b08, mixed mode)
There is a new version available from SUN but it is only 1.6.0_17. So, I am not going to install it on my working linux session. (I currently have 2 different installations on the same computer, one for day to day use and one for checking installations before installing them on the day to day install. This prevents me from breaking something that is not broken. A lesson, alas, I have learned the hard way.)
